My New Routing
Next week I am adding Tuesday mornings into my teaching mix, bringing me up to 13 classes per week which I am super excited about. I will say that crafting a Reformer Flow class can be fun but challenging. The more I teach the more challenging I find these planning sessions to be. A Flow class is designed for people who have a general understanding of Pilates. Because these classes fit most all skill levels I find that planning my classes with lots of layers helps to serve everyone no matter their level. Currently I am working to incorporate lots of the classical Pilates repertoire into my classes and challenging my students to slow way down. Pilates is intended to be practiced slowly. This slow pace allows you to focus on form, build strength & stability and creating long lean muscles.
Since teaching full time, I haven’t spent as much time being a student myself. That is one thing that I am trying to get better at. As an instructor it is so important to continue your own practice so that you know how everything feels in your own body. One of my goals is to get back into my own practice. When I am not teaching or working on admin stuff I am either watching Gilmore Girls, doing laundry, cooking or reading. I would be lying if I said I haven’t struggled to find my new routine. The days I teach are easy but the days I don’t teach, I am still figuring out!
The Holidays
I can hardly believe that Thanksgiving is just one month away. This will be our 4th year hosting and I am seriously so excited. Having both of our families together is one of my favorite things. For my moms birthday we did a wine tasting activity before dinner. We had 4 bottles, I hid the labels and poured a taste for everyone. While tasting we wrote down what kind of wine we thought it was, the notes and the price point. We had so much fun that I think I may try to recreate the experience as a pre dinner activity on Thanksgiving. I love to have an activity that allows everyone to loosen up and have a little bit of fun!
This Thanksgiving is my first gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free holiday and I can honestly say, I am a little bit nervous. No more normal stuffing, no more normal gravy or pie. I just started researching gluten-free stuffing and I am tempted to buy a box so that I can test it out and make sure that it tastes okay before the big day. Luckily my sister-in-law and I are both gluten free so I won’t be alone! I will need to do some scheming to figure out what her and I should make while still making a normal Thanksgiving for everyone else.
My Favorite Books as of late
One thing about me is that I love to read. Although it wasn’t until 2022 when I finally stuck to my new years resolution of reading 12 books in 12 months. I thought that was a pretty good start to this whole reading thing. I ended 2022 right at 12 books and I was so proud of myself. Reading was a huge game changer for me, it is what helped me stop watching TV to fall asleep and it also stopped me from doom scrolling for hours right before bed. In 2023 I decided why not keep that same goal but stretch myself to expand the type of books I read. In 2023 I ended up reading 20 books! This year I just wanted to continue my reading habit! I’m currently on my 16th book and these are my favorites so far!
